Close-knit community with East Shore access

Photo: Nelson Kootenay Lake Tourism

Balfour, about 25 minutes’ drive from Nelson, is a small, beautiful community with many practical benefits:

  • Immediate ferry access to the East Shore and to Creston, the USA border, and beyond
  • Golf courses, hot springs (15 minutes), beaches, and other attractions
  • Local stores and restaurants
  • Easy access to Nelson (25 minutes) and Kaslo (30 minutes)

The location has some stunning lake and mountain views, especially being on the junction of two branches of Kootenay Lake.

The East end of the ferry is Crawford Bay, a renowned artisan community, with Nelson still being in easy reach thanks to a regular and year-round ferry schedule.

Access is via Highway 3A to the West (Nelson), Highway 31 (Salmo) and, over the ferry, Highway 3A to the South (Creston, the USA Border, Cranbrook, and beyond).
